Research Activities

The research efforts of the Witebsky Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology faculty are supported by more than 39 grants from NIH and other agencies, totaling more than 29.5 million dollars in direct costs in 2006.  In addition, minor grants from local funding sources support start-up projects in several laboratories.  Center laboratories support a research staff, and in addition, fund the stipends for more than 30 graduate students, 22 post doctoral fellows and 5 M.D., Ph.D. students.   Research productivity is reflected in approximately 79 publications in peer-reviewed journals annually, plus a similar number of oral or poster presentations given by faculty or trainees at national or international research conferences, and over 49 invited talks at major symposia or other institutions.  In addition, many topical reviews, book chapters and case studies have been written by the faculty.
