Research Collaboration
One major goal of the WCMPI is the continued development of productive collaborations among Center members. Over the past five years, the members have developed a substantial number of new productive collaborations and with several faculty venturing into new research . For example, Ruyechan, whose previous work was focused in virology, now has collaborative projects with Williams in studies on parasite gene expression. Campagnari and Russo have received funding for collaborative projects on Moraxella catarrhalis and E. coli. Knight and Russo have established a productive collaborative research program on pneumonia and lung inflammatory response. Connell and Russell have combined their respective activities in bacteriology and mucosal immunology. Niles and Hay collaborate on work with Hantavirus as well as pursuing their individual interests in poxviruses and varicella zoster virus.
