The major requirement in the first semester in the Biochemistry program is the Research Proposal (BCH 565).  The research proposal process will begin with a Thesis Research Prospectus presentation/Journal.  This 30-40 minute presentation will present an overview of the research in the student’s lab, the objective of the student’s thesis research within that context, and the Specific Aims of the work the student plans to complete directed toward that objective.  The written proposal that the student then prepares and submits to her/his Committee will follow the format of a NIH pre/post-doctoral fellowship.  This proposal represents the broad outline of the student’s doctoral research and Thesis.  The Research Proposal is the Department’s “Preliminary Examination” for students who are enrolled in the doctoral program.
