The SUNY Buffalo School
of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences residency program is a
four-year training period in diagnostic radiology. The program
extends from PGY-2 through PGY-5 levels. An ACGME approved
clinical PGY-1 is necessary before beginning radiology training.
The Diagnostic Radiology
Residency Program offers comprehensive training in all areas
of diagnostic imaging. Educational activities and clinical
rotations take place at several Consortium hospitals as well
as local radiology facilities. The hospitals include: The
Erie County Medical Center, Women's and Children's Hospital
of Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Veterans Administration
Medical Center, Buffalo General Hospital, and South Buffalo
Mercy Hospital. Residents also rotate through three freestanding
outpatient radiology facilities. These include: Western New
York MRI Center, Spectrum Radiology, and Windsong Radiology.
Western New York MRI Center offers residents intensive training
in an MRI facility.
General radiology rotations
with an emphasis on cross-sectional imaging and radiographic
anatomy are offered at Spectrum Radiology. Windsong Radiology
provides the resident extensive training in the area of breast
imaging. All of these facilities are within a ten-mile radius,
allowing for relative ease in travel from one facility to
another for conferences and/or assigned rotations.
