In addition, faculty collaborate with researcher at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Research Institute on Addictions.
The department has substantial resources to support its research program. The department maintains a Clinical Research Center, which is staffed by a full time Research Director and a full time Research Coordinator, and additional administrative support is provided to the CRC. Current research utilizing these facilities include a double-blind study of pharmaceutical interventions for patients with Bipolar I disorder, efficacy and pharmacokinetics of antipsychotic medications in elderly patients, safety and efficacy for medications for acute mania, safety and tolerability of treatments for Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type, and studies of pharmacological interventions with adolescents with schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. In addition, faculty are pursuing research interests in biopsychosocial factors in chronic disease, hormonal modulation of brain and behavior, hormone related changes in mood and behavior in women interventions for children with ADHD, developmental studies of offspring of substance abusers, psychosocial studies of the development of alcohol problems among married couples, and the integration of bioinformatics and clinical information.
We also offer mentorship opportunities for medical students, residents and junior faculty members who are interested in research. If you are interested, please contact Sevie Kandefer @ 716 898-4038 (see detailed contact information at the bottom of the page).
