Core Facilities
The newly established BioInformatics Program, which addresses the interrelation among genomic sequences, protein sequences, and 3-dimensional structures, should engender a strong interest in those involved in the study of Pharmacology by virtue of its objective to enhance the identification of new targets of drug action. The Department also has access to an up-to-date Animal Facility, the Confocal Microscope Facility, and the Electron Microscope Facility.
Core facilities for protein and DNA sequencing, oligonucleotide synthesis, laser confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, and X-ray crystallography are conveniently located on campus.
Other Core Facilities located at the nearby Roswell Park Cancer Institute and available to the UB faculty, students, and staff include:
Library and Computing
UB Libraries,
the largest library system in the SUNY system and fourth largest among
all university library systems in New York State, provide support for
research and scholarship. The Health
Sciences Library, which is convenient to the School
of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, has extensive journal
and book holdings.
HUBNET (Hospitals
and University at Buffalo Library Resource Network) provides computer
access to bibliographic databases, full text journals, clinical manuals
and textbooks, drug information resources, and communication tools such
as electronic mail.
Office of Medical Computing is
another resource which provides computer services to our faculty, students,
and staff and offers resources to help solve computer problems.

Service Facility
HLA Genotyping, DNA Allelic Determination and Genetic Counseling
This facility provides DNA testing and counseling for several suspected
immune-linked genetic disorders including Chronic Beryllium Disease
and Crohn's Disease. Services include genomic DNA isolation from blood
or other tissues sources, genetic biomarker analysis using specific
polymerase chain reaction and, in conjunction with RPCI Biopolymer
Resource laboratory, DNA sequencing using ABI Prism 3100 Genetic Analyzers.
