Child Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
The University Department of Child Psychiatry and
Behavioral Sciences includes the Division of Child Psychiatry of
the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine
and Biomedical Sciences. It is a major mental health service in
Western New York, providing highly diversified diagnostic and
therapeutic services for children, adolescents, and their
parents. The staff is composed of more than 20 professionals
from the areas of psychiatry, psychology, behavioral pediatrics,
social work, nursing, vocational counseling, and education.
Internal Medicine
The Department of Internal Medicine at
Children’s Hospital handles medical complications of pregnancy,
including diabetes, gestational diabetes, endocrine disorders,
congenital heart defects, and neurological disorders. The
department treats women from all over the world.
Neurology
The
Department of Pediatric Neurology at Children’s Hospital, a
division of the Department of Neurology at the University of
Buffalo, consists of five full-time neurologists. The large
caseload includes 6,600 clinic visits annually, with
approximately 55 inpatients monthly. The department has strong
research interests in neuro-oncology, neuropharmacology, and
neurobiology, and is also responsible for the clinical
neurodiagnostic laboratory, which includes neonatal, children’s
EEG, and apnea monitoring. Lab services include polysomnography
and auditory, visual, and somasensory-evoked responses.
Pediatric
Pathology
The Department
of Pediatric Pathology consists of surgical pathology,
cytopathology, and autopsy pathology. As a major care facility
for surgery of infants and children, Children’s Hospital offers
a wide spectrum of pediatric pathology.
Radiology and
Nuclear Medicine
The
Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine has long been
committed to providing the best in diagnostic radiological
services to the community while maintaining a high-quality
learning center for medical students, residents, and fellows.
The department has the rare advantage of having nuclear
medicine, ultrasound with Doppler capabilities, and
interventional radiology all in one central location.
Staffed by 11
pediatric radiologists who are capable of diagnosticians and
prolific researchers, the department has rotations for pediatric
residents, radiological residents, and medical students (with
whom research collaboration is encouraged). All inpatient and ER
radiologic examinations are reviewed daily with house staff, and
radiology department staff actively participates in various
pediatric teaching conferences. |
