Frank Mendel, Ph.D. was featured on the Discovery Channel's "Animal Face-Off" Series. Frank is part of a team developing computational and mechanical models to compare the predatory behavior of beasts like the lion, tiger, and saber-tooth cat. His work involves modeling the action of their jaws to understand how their unique qualities enable them to disable prey so effectively.

Michal Stachowiak, Ph.D. and coworkers have identified a new gene signaling mechanism that controls stem cell differentiation. The mechanism involves the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1), which is transported to the nucleus to influence gene expression.
