Interesting Cases: 8:00-9:00 am
Three cases will be presented each week by one of the three hospitals. The chief or senior resident at each hospital is responsible for making sure there are cases prepared. Select cases for which the attending is available for discussion. Once a quarter a case from the sports and hand service will be presented instead of one of the hospitals. The weekly assignments are included in the schedule.

Grand Rounds: 9:00-10:15 am
One resident and one attending are assigned to each topic. Each resident and attending should plan on presenting for no more than 30 minutes. This includes time for questions and discussion, so prepare a talk that is 20-25 minutes in length to leave discussion time at the end. Copies of previous talks are available on the University "S" drive. Use of previous talks is permitted, but updates and revisions are expected. Use of these talks should not replace your own research of the subject matter. Because of the new format, there are far fewer talks per resident. Because of this, you are expected to have researched your topic thoroughly and have a polished presentation. An outline of your talk should be distributed along with a list of references.

Resident Hour: 10:15-11:00 am
OITE Review - The assigned residents should have the previous year’s OITE questions in PowerPoint format (contact Timothy Palaszewski about this). Residents are responsible for looking up the cited references and leading discussion with the attending. Answers/discussions that have already been completed can be used for this purpose. If we have already reviewed these questions, you should select appropriate questions from the most recent self assessment exam.
Basic Science - This session has been changed back to a discussion format. The assigned resident should prepare an outline of the topic to facilitate discussion. The outlines will be placed in a booklets designed for OITE and Board review that will be distributed to all the residents when complete. They should be appropriately detailed. There will be a quiz at the beginning of each session. A prize will be awarded at the end of the year to the resident with the highest score. An effort was made to correlate the topic to the Grand Rounds when possible.

UB Sessions: 7:30-10:00 am, 1st Thursday of each month
Anatomy - One senior and one junior level resident will be assigned to coordinate the anatomy sessions that occur on the first Thursday of each month. The session will start with a quiz, followed by a short presentation given by the assigned resident outlining the surgical approaches and relevant anatomy. Computer programs of approaches should be included. We will continue with the same live dissection format as last year as responses to this change were very positive.
