Residency Program
Department of Orthopaedics

The PGY-5 chief resident spends a total of nine months at the Erie County Medical Center. A great deal of independence is encouraged here, with attending physician back up. Within this rotation the chief residents evaluate trauma cases (with attending consultation and supervision). The chief residents also perform the busy elective adult schedule in all aspects of orthopaedics.
This rotation includes participation in outpatient clinics. When time permits, there is an opportunity to see patients in the private offices of the attending physicians for which they cover. A three month rotation as chief resident is also performed at the Buffalo General Hospital, where residents gain additional experience in arthroplasty, spine surgery, and general orthopaedic cases.
