| On October 1, 2001, Kenneth A. Krackow, M.D. performed the first computer assisted total knee arthroplasty (replacement) outside of Europe at the Buffalo General Hospital. A 59 year old female patient had a left knee replaced, and is doing very well postoperatively. This is the first FDA approved TKA procedure done in this country, using the Stryker Navigation System, also developed by Dr Krackow. Since 1995, Dr. Krackow has performed almost 800 conventional TKA procedures. |
| Dr. Krackow and Dr. Matthew Phillips will be routinely using this new technology for total knee replacement surgery. This system has is the result of six years of development, testing, and research by Dr. Krackow and his staff at Buffalo General. Stryker Howmedica Osteonics of Rutherford, New Jersey is now manufacturing and distributing this computer assisted TKA system. |
