The Erie County Medical Center is western New York's leading trauma, burn, and rehabilitation center. Initially founded in 1909 as a hospital for contagious diseases (known then as Buffalo City Hospital) ECMC is the only designated adult regional trauma center in western New York, and continues to report the state's highest survival rates.
The Department of Orthopaedics at ECMC is recognized as the area's premier center for the comprehensive care of patients with severe disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Areas of expertise include arthritis surgery and total joint replacement, treatment of fractures and sever musculoskeletal trauma, reconstruction of problems following fractures, spinal trauma and reconstruction, as well as areas of specialty in foot/ankle, shoulder and hand surgery.
The department's reputation for excellence and its use of western New York's most advanced technology attracts over 12,500 patients annually.
