Buffalo General Hospital, a part of Kaleida Health, is the largest hospital in upstate New York, providing nearly 25% of adult medical and surgical services in Erie County.
The Orthopaedic division at BGH, headed by Kenneth Krackow, M.D., has developed a superb arthroplasty service for total joint surgery. In addition to all aspects of reconstructive surgery, the division continues its emphasis on orthopaedic oncology in collaboration wih the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Eugene R. Mindell, M.D. (Professor Emeritus and past Department Chair) has established the Orthopaedic Bone Pathology Laboratory at Buffalo General Hospital. The Bone Lab conducts research in orthopaedic oncology and bone pathology, involving a multi-disciplinary team, including oncologists from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and pathologists from both Buffalo General Hospital and the University at Buffalo. The Bone Lab is currently under the direction of Brian McGrath, M.D.
Dr. Mindell is also currently organizing the online Images of Musculoskeletal Oncology, which is aimed at improving the ability of our residents, medical students, and attending physicians in the early diagnosis and proper treatment of patients with musculoskeletal neoplasms or conditions that simulate them.
