Open biopsy of the clavicular lesion revealed friable tissue containing histiocytes and inflammatory cells, including eosinophils. The eosinophils were somewhat scarce. Many of the histiocytes have wide amplified cytoplasm with defined borders. These cells have been termed Langerhans Cells. Tissue sent to Bacteriology was negative for organisms.

The diagnosis of eosinophilic granuloma (histiocytosis X) was made and the boney lesion was then curetted thoroughly. The tissue sent to Bacteriology showed no growth.
