Ophthalmology research leads to sight-preserving treatments,
reducesvisual impairment, and improves the quality of
life for people of all ages. The UB department of Ophthalmology
is committed to excellence in research, incorporated
into our basic science laboratories, residency training,
and clinical practice. |

Our major areas of research interest include
hereditary retinal degenerations, proliferative retinopathies,
retinoid binding proteins and corneal stem cells. Funding
for these research projects is provided by the National Institutes
of Health, private foundations, as well as pharmaceutical
companies.
