Ophthalmology research leads to sight-preserving treatments, reducesvisual impairment, and improves the quality of life for people of all ages. The UB department of Ophthalmology is committed to excellence in research, incorporated into our basic science laboratories, residency training, and clinical practice.

Our major areas of research interest include hereditary retinal degenerations, proliferative retinopathies, retinoid binding proteins and corneal stem cells. Funding for these research projects is provided by the National Institutes of Health, private foundations, as well as pharmaceutical companies.

For more information about our research, please see the individual investigators? links on the panel to the left. We welcome new ideas and new collaborations.
