Step I Exam:
Second year students are required to take the Step I exam on a date during the summer before the start of year III: the OME establishes a deadline date each year for the second year class. Any student who does not comply with this date MUST discuss, in advance, their situation with Dr. Nadler or Dr. Nielsen. All students must report a passing grade prior to the start of third year.

Step II Exam: Final year students are strongly encouraged to schedule the Step II exam at least six months in advance of the desired date in order to assure availability of the preferred date.

The application process: Completed USMLE registration materials must be certified by the OME before being mailed to the USMLE.

  1. Students should get an application for the United States Medical Licensing Exam on-line at the following web site: http://www.nbme.org/. Please read all application and test registration materials carefully.
  2. Complete the application. Use black ink only and be sure to put your name on the back of your photograph.
  3. Return the completed application for school certification to Kim Zosh in the OME, BEB 40 (Mon-Fri 8:30am - 4:30pm).
  4. Kim will forward the application to Dr. Schimphauser who is the school official that needs to certify your application.
  5. Pick-up your certified application from Kim.
  6. Mail your application to USMLE.
    • Applications will be processed by the USMLE within 4-6 weeks.
    • Your Scheduling Permit will be mailed to you by the USMLE.
    • Once your Scheduling Permit is received, contact Sylvan to select your exam appointment. Sylvan Prometric Testing Center locator: http://www.2test.com/

IMPORTANT: Your name on the Scheduling Permit must match exactly your name on the identification you are required to present at the Sylvan Test Center. Sylvan will accept only a valid, unexpired government issued form of identification that includes both your photo and signature (such as a passport or driver's license).
