LOAN DEFERMENT

The OME can verify your enrollment for the time you are registered at as a medical student for loan deferments. (MD/Ph.D. students should contact the Office of Records and Registration at 829-2382 for enrollment verification while they are registered in the Ph.D. portion of the program. To have your enrollment verified, please bring the form sent to you by your loan company to the OME. We will fill out the verification portion and send it to the loan company. Please remember to fill out the student portion, and sign your name. The verification form will not be valid without your signature.

In many cases this process needs to be repeated each year that you are in medical school. To minimize problems for you later on, this should be taken care of in a timely manner.

Dates of enrollment vary according to class year. We can only verify your full-time enrollment for the dates that classes are in-session for your class.

Special Note: Many student loans have grace periods which means you will not have to start repaying your loan during the summer break. However, if your loan does NOT have this grace period, you are responsible for making payments during the summer. If you are unable to pay, and need to arrange forbearance for the summer vacation period, you need to contact your loan company directly.
