Residency

Introduction from the Chairman

Congratulations on your decision to pursue the rewarding and challenging field of gynecology and obstetrics. We are pleased that you have shown interest in our program and are happy to provide you with a description of the University at Buffalo's approach to residency training in gynecology and obstetrics.

The University at Buffalo residency program offers a breadth of clinical opportunities. Residents have extensive exposure to general gynecology and obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, and advanced laparoscopic procedures. To complement our clinical experiences, the Department continues to expand on a solid research base and residents will have access to work with faculty members on any number of research projects.

The residency program operates out of five hospitals that each provide unique experiences. Women and Children's Hospital is a regional perinatal center specializing in high-risk pregnancies. Buffalo General Hospital and Erie County Medical Center are the sites of resident continuity clinics and provide experiences in general gynecology and obstetrics. Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital is located outside the city and is a major site for gynecological surgery and low-risk obstetrics. Finally, Roswell Park Cancer Institute is a nationally known cancer center where residents obtain experience in gynecological malignancies.

Our clinical- and research-based educational program, in combination with full-time faculty members committed to teaching, allows residents to meet their full potential as physicians. The myriad of opportunities available at our university-based program will prepare residents for any career path, whether private practice, academic medicine, or fellowship training. We believe you will be impressed with the innovative education, solid clinical experience and broad spectrum of research opportunities available in the University at Buffalo Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics. We invite you to come for a visit to meet our residents and faculty and to see for yourself the many opportunities our program has to offer.
