Research Facilities

The major research facilities are located on campus in a state-of-the art Biomedical Sciences Research Building. Animal facilities are provided in the same building complex. The research laboratories are well equipped with modern instrumentation, including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Fast Protein Liquid chromatography (FPLC) machines, polymerase chain reaction equipment, phosphoimagers, gamma counters, spectrophotometers, large-volume bacterial and cell culture equipment, and all appropriate equipment for cutting-edge biomedical research. A number of services are available at the Medical School or through the Center for Advanced Molecular Biology and Immunology at UB or the nearby Roswell Park Cancer Institute Core Facilities. These include: oligonucleotide synthesis and DNA sequencing facilities, confocal microscopes, a state-of-the-art FACS devices including single-cell sorting capabilities; two monoclonal antibody generation and production facilities, a peptide synthesis facility, quantitative PCR services, an analytical and preparative chromatography facility, and a Mass Spec/Biopolymer facility. A shared BL3 biocontainment suite and a specific pathogen-free facility are also available. The department takes advantage of the university-wide computer network through which it has access to a variety of analysis software including that for genomic research.
