Residency Program
Director’s Statement
As Program Director for the University at Buffalo Internal medicine Program I am proud to say that residents trained here have a great number of advantages. Our multi hospital program gives everyone the opportunity to master different hospital systems, see a broad spectrum of patients and disease states and access to a wide variety of research opportunities. Graduates of our program frequently contact me later in their careers with great appreciation for the skills they have developed here.
Graduate medical education has evolved a great deal in recent years. Accredited training programs such as ours have many similarities as national requirements and standards must be met. However within theses guidelines it is our mission to create a training program that ensures proficiency in Internal Medicine while making every resident competitive for fellowships, practice and research. It is the depth of clinical and research faculty in the University at Buffalo system which offers our large body of residents the opportunities to develop these skills in their fields of choice.
We expect our residents and faculty to practice with impeccable professionalism and to learn skills of teamwork that are essential to the quality care of their patients. Our residents develop as clinical teachers for University at Buffalo medical students which are an integral component of their experience. We also provide a structure in which residents reflect on their own skills and use these assessments to improve their practice.
The University at Buffalo Internal Medicine Program is looking for applicants who are motivated to learn, teach and pursue research in an environment that will challenge them to assess their own abilities against the highest standards. We are committed to providing the structure within which every resident can achieve their individual goals while developing excellence in Internal Medicine.
We welcome the opportunity to meet any prospective candidate who is motivated to meet these challenges.
