About
The Division of Palliative Medicine
The Division of Palliative Medicine is an academic and clinical unit within the UB Department of Medicine. This administrative placement does not diminish the important connections with palliative practitioners in other branches of medicine, or even non-medical fields such as nursing or social work. This Division is intended to be the academic home for such individuals, regardless of their primary affiliation.
The Division works closely with The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care (CHPC)/Hospice Buffalo and its physicians. CHPC is a major academic and research affiliate of the Division and the only certified hospice agency in Erie County.
The Division's primary academic activities include the ACGME-accredited UB Palliative Medicine Fellowship, MED-880 medical student elective, as well as residency and fellowship electives. Clinical sites include:
- Hospice Buffalo (Mitchell Campus, hospital swing beds, and home visits),
- VA WNY Healthcare System
- Kaleida Health
- Roswell Park Cancer Institute
- SMBS Clinical Competency Center
