- Buffalo General Hospital
Buffalo General Hospital is a 501-bed acute care
medical center providing a wide spectrum of clinical
inpatient care and outpatient services. It is the
largest hospital of Kaleida Health, and offers specialized
programs in cardiac and orthopedic surgery, lithotripsy
and urology, psychology, gynecology/obstetrics, dialysis,
gastroenterology, cardiac rehabilitation, rehabilitation
medicine, kidney and pancreas transplantation, neurology
and nuerosurgery. It is also the main site for medical
students and residents of the University at Buffalo.

- Women & Children’s
Hospital of Buffalo
Since its founding in 1892, the Children’s
Hospital of Buffalo has been devoted to providing
the ultimate in pediatric and maternal health care.
As a regional referral center and one of only three
pediatric hospitals in the United States with a maternity
unit, Children’s Hospital provides unique patient
care to the eight-county Western New York area. The
new helipad has allowed the hospital to service farther
outlying communities.
The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo serves more
than 28,000 inpatients annually, and more than 150,000
outpatients visit the emergency department or one
of the 45 specialty clinics each year. Virtually
all medical and surgical problems of infants, children,
and adolescents are available for resident education
programs.
Included in the hospital’s 313 beds are 67
maternity beds. Its maternity and high-risk maternity
programs are complemented by its intensive care nursery,
which cares for nearly 1,000 critically ill full-term
and premature newborns annually – many of them
weighing as little as one to two pounds. Children’s
Hospital has one of the highest rates of survival
for premature neonates in the country.
A private, non-profit hospital, Children’s
Hospital is the major teaching affiliate of the State
University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine
and Biomedical Sciences’ Department of Pediatrics.
The University’s Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology is housed here, as well. More than 700
medical, nursing, and allied health students study
at Children’s Hospital each year. As part of
its commitment to primary care, Children’s
Hospital maintains two clinics in underserved areas.
In addition, a commitment has been made to be intimately
involved in providing primary care to school-based
clinics.

- Erie County Medical Center
The Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) Healthcare
Network is one of the area's leading health care
providers. The ECMC Healthcare Network encompasses
off-campus, community based health centers, an advanced
academic medical center with 550 inpatient beds and
156 skilled nursing home beds, and the Erie County
Home, a 638-bed skilled nursing facility. The medical
center serves as the regional center for trauma,
burn, and rehabilitation, and is a major teaching
facility for the State University of New York at
Buffalo. Most ECMC Healthcare Network physicians,
dentists, and pharmacists are dedicated faculty members
of the University. The mission of the ECMC Healthcare
Network is to provide exceptional medical care to
all Western New York residents regardless of ability
to pay, and to continue in a leadership role in education
and research.

Administration Medical Center
The Buffalo VAMC opened in 1950 and provides comprehensive
primary, secondary and tertiary inpatient care.
- Primary Care
Veterans can receive primary care, wellness
and preventive outpatient care at both the
Buffalo and Batavia facilities as well as in
the seven community-based outpatient clinics.
- Specialized Services
Buffalo VAMC provides medical, surgical, mental
health and longterm care services through a
full range of inpatient and outpatient programs.
- Cardiac & Cancer
Center
It is the main referral center for cardiac
surgery, cardiology and comprehensive cancer
care for central and western New York and Northern
Pennsylvania.
- Research
VAWNYHS researchers have earned worldwide acclaim
in developing the cardiac pacemaker. Recent
breakthroughs in the study of tinnitus and
progress toward a vaccine for childhood ear
infections promise benefits to all mankind.

- Roswell
Park Cancer Institute
Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), America's first
cancer center founded in 1898 by Dr. Roswell Park.
RPCI is the only upstate New York facility to hold
the National Cancer Center designation of
" "comprehensive cancer center"" and
to serve as a member of the prestigious National
Comprehensive Cancer Network.
Over its long history, Roswell Park Cancer Institute
has made fundamental contributions to reducing the
cancer burden and has successfully maintained an
exemplary leadership role in setting the national
standards for cancer care, research and education.
The campus spans 25 acres in downtown Buffalo and
consists of 15 buildings with about one million square
feet of space. A new hospital building, completed
in 1998, houses a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment
center. In addition, the Institute built a new medical
research complex and renovated existing education
and research space to support its future growth and
expansion.
