University at Buffalo Residency Program Faculty

A strong university program requires a strong faculty committed to teaching, research, and clinical medicine. The Department of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has more than 150 full-time and 360 volunteer faculty members, balanced among research-oriented individuals, scholarly teachers, and experienced patient care-givers. This faculty mix supports the Department's commitment to training physicians who are competent in not only the science of medicine, but the art of medicine as well. Each full-time faculty member has a principal institutional base but may also teach at other program sites. Because our Consortium agreement distributes the programs throughout multiple institutions, the Department of Medicine can draw upon the unique strengths and resources that each hospital has to offer. The sites of the Division Chiefs' offices are as follows:

Buffalo General Hospital:

Allergy/Immunology/Rheumatology
Cardiology
Gastroenterology
Geriatrics

Children's Hospital of Buffalo:

Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Program

Erie County Medical Center:

General Internal Medicine
Hematology
Nephrology

Millard Fillmore Health System:

Clinical Pharmacology
Endocrinology

Roswell Park Cancer Institute:

Oncology

VA Medical Center:

Infectious Diseases
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

Each of the four major adult full-service hospitals maintains active clinical services in all of the subdivisions of internal medicine, with services delivered by a mix of full-time and voluntary faculty.

These divisions are an excellent resource for house officers, and supply invaluable teaching, elective, and consultative experiences. Active fellowship programs in these divisions complement the house staff teaching program, giving house staff members excellent post-residency opportunities for clinical and research training.
