Research
Dr
Bernstein is
involved with research
in hemophilia and
HIV related disorders.
The fellows are encouraged
to work with Dr.
Bernstein or to work
with other Hematology/Oncology
faculty members at
Roswell Park Cancer
Institute.
Dr. Logue is
involved in research
in immunohematology including
the mechanisms of production
of immune neutropenia
and complement activator
during decompression
sickness.
The residents are required
to participate in research
during their second year
fellowship, defining
an independent project
for each fellow and placing
them under the mentorship
of one of the faculty
at the State University
of New York at Buffalo.
The fellows are encouraged
to develop research,
which is suitable for
presentation at national
meetings and/or for publication.
The degree to which this
is successful obviously
varies from project to
project.
Conferences and
Journal Club
- The weekly Red Cell
Rounds Conference
is devoted to research
topics approximately
25% of the time and
the hematology fellows
are encouraged to
attend the monthly
research meeting
of the Department
of Medicine.
- Journal Club activities
are also conducted
relating to the use
of research methodology
and interpretation.
