Research

Dr Bernstein is involved with research in hemophilia and HIV related disorders. The fellows are encouraged to work with Dr. Bernstein or to work with other Hematology/Oncology faculty members at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Dr. Logue is involved in research in immunohematology including the mechanisms of production of immune neutropenia and complement activator during decompression sickness.

The residents are required to participate in research during their second year fellowship, defining an independent project for each fellow and placing them under the mentorship of one of the faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo. The fellows are encouraged to develop research, which is suitable for presentation at national meetings and/or for publication. The degree to which this is successful obviously varies from project to project.

Conferences and Journal Club

  • The weekly Red Cell Rounds Conference is devoted to research topics approximately 25% of the time and the hematology fellows are encouraged to attend the monthly research meeting of the Department of Medicine.

  • Journal Club activities are also conducted relating to the use of research methodology and interpretation.
