Welcome to the website of the Division of Hematologyof
the Department of Medicine at the University
at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical
Sciences.
The mission of the division is to provide medical
students, internal medicine residents, hematology
fellows and faculty with education about patients
with hematological disorders. We combine clinical
and research training to prepare trainees for
careers as physician-scientists in academic medicine
while providing quality patient care.
Hematology fellows will involve in learning the
medical histories, physical examination, and interpretation
of laboratory data for patients with hematological
diseases. This experience will stress microscopic
examination of the blood and bone marrow and the
use of morphology to evaluate diagnosis and treatment.
In addition, fellows will also provide subspecialty
consultations to other departments, including
the Department of Surgery.
The research activities of our division focus
on the study of the hemophilia, HIV related disorders
and immunohematology. Residents and fellows are
encouraged to develop independent research and
will be mentored by a UB faculty.
Grand rounds and Conferences are held on a regular
basis to facilitate the learning process by raising
awareness of the latest advances in diagnostic
techniques and treatment methods. It also provides
a forum for clinical and academic interaction
between geographic full-time faculty and community
based physicians in hematology and medical oncology.
