There is obviously a close working relationship between the Hematology Fellowship Program and the Medical Oncology Training Program. A number of Fellows participate in joint hematology/oncology training. In addition, the hematology fellows are actively involved in training internal medicine residents in both general internal medicine and in hematology subspecialty processes. The hematology fellows are involved in an almost daily basis with fellows of other internal medicine subspecialties including pulmonary, rheumatology, infectious diseases and gastroenterology. The hematology fellows also provide frequent consultations for other Departments including Surgical Service and the various surgical subspecialties. The hematology fellows are involved in consultation to cardiothoracic and trauma programs because of the frequent hematologic complications which occur in these areas. All of the Hematology Fellow’s training occurs within the auspices of the State University of New York at Buffalo.
