Education - Clinical
SUNY/Buffalo School of Medicine has a long tradition
of providing a diverse clinical training experience.
The Division's clinical training opportunities remain
in step with that tradition. The training occurs in:
- Home care
- The Western New York Geriatric Ambulatory Center
- Our Acute Geriatric Unit
- Our rehabilitation units
- Our long-term care units
Students and residents rotate through the various training
sites at different stages of their training. Post-graduate
fellows in geriatric medicine train extensively in all
areas of our clinical training arena. The Division offers
a comprehensive fellowship training program that is accredited
by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
New York State supports the teaching activity with funds
from the Western New York Alzheimer's Disease Assessment
Center.
The clinical service that provides the infra-structure
for the clinical training includes patients from diverse
social, economic, and cultural backgrounds in a wide
variety of clinical settings. This diversity provides
excellent opportunities for training in cultural sensitivity,
and communication skills, as well as the opportunity
to understand health, disease, and optimal disease management
within the diverse clinical settings.
