Research

The Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology committed to high quality programs in both basic and clinical research. This is substantiated by research grants from both local and national agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the Theodore Jacobs Endowment in Immunology. The Division has chosen to focus on several areas of investigation including the molecular pathogenesis of HIV infections, regulation of the immune system including B lymphocyte differentiation, markers of tolerance in human organ transplantation, and the pathogenesis of pauci-immune glomerulonephritis. Close interactions are maintained with the Department of Microbiology at UB and the Departments of Medicine and Immunology at the nearby Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Graduate students from both institutions can undertake their thesis research within the Division under a faculty mentor.
