Features of the Program

  • Weekly city-wide clinical infectious disease conference
  • Weekly research conference
  • Monthly journal club
  • One month rotation through clinical microbiology laboratories
  • Half-day per week infectious diseases clinic experience
  • Enormously broad spectrum of clinical infectious disease problems in four distinct hospital settings
  • Rotation of house officers and students through the clinical infectious diseases elective

Applicants for Fellowship

Any graduate of a US-accredited medical residency may apply. Applications may currently be submitted through the University at Buffalo or through ERAS. Applications from the University may be obtained by contacting the program coordinator, or they may be downloaded directly from our website.

To apply, please download and complete the application form. Acrobat reader is required for viewing the file. In addition to a completed application, applicants must submit a personal statement, a resume and at least three letters of recommendation.

The Program Director reviews and screens all applications and presents to the members of the Selection Committee choices of applicants to be invited for interviews. The committee reviews the applications and generally invites approximately 10 applicants for interview. All interviewees are provided with lodging at a nearby motel at Division expense. All interviewees meet with at least four members of the Division and with at least one current fellow. All get a written evaluation and a score from each faculty member with whom they meet. We encourage early submission of applications, but will review them through the month of March. We have not rejected applications received later, but have given stronger consideration to early applications.

Our selection of candidates for fellowship is based upon the strength of USMLE scores, personal statements – including personal goals, letters of recommendation, and the impressions of the faculty with whom they have interviewed.

Research Opportunities
A major element of the training program is the research experience. A majority of the faculty are funded by the NIH or VA. The Division offers the following outstanding research opportunities
