Before the Shot

Reference Type:
Artwork
Year:
March 15, 1958
Notes/Description:
[March 15, 1958 magazine cover] Norman Rockwell wanted to paint the positive side of life, and his representations of doctors with children show kind and patient country physicians doing their very best to make their young patients comfortable. Rockwell had three sons, so a good deal of experience watching doctors interact with young patients. In Before the Shot, the boy is getting ready for a shot in the buttocks; as he waits, he checks the doctor’s credentials. Notes by Mariann Smith
