CRESE interaction with industryCRESE’s expertise and physical resources are regularly called upon to help industry and other institutions with problem solution, testing and prototype development in the areas of human engineering and engineering of equipment for special environments. Examples of recent projects of this nature include: · Testing of the effectiveness of propeller guards on outboard motors for preventing injuries to swimmers. (Outboard Motor Video). · Testing of function of oxygen breathing regulators for medical applications. · Testing, at altitude (i.e. low air density), of pneumatic device for determination of intraocular pressure. · Testing of breathing equipment used by divers in fatal diving accidents. · Testing of new materials for elimination of carbon dioxide in divers rebreathing apparatus. · Mathematical modeling of new breathing regulator design · Leak testing of electrical pressure traducers for use at extreme depths in the ocean. · Measurements of propulsive effectiveness of different types swim fins. · Studies of surface treatments for reducing hydrodynamic drag of immersed bodies. · High – G centrifuge testing on human subjects of effectiveness of new types of anti-G suits. · Studies of functionality of protective suit for air crew at high altitude and during explosive decompressions. · Simulation of accidental blow out of large-scale subterranean energy storage systems. · Testing of oxygen masks in simulated high altitude parachuting. · Precision gas analyses for aerospace company. · Testing of anesthesia machine intended for use in hyperbaric chamber. · Development of equipment for measuring contact angles between droplets of various fluids on different contact surfaces. · Construction, in collaboration with inventor, of novel type of surfactometer. · Construction, in collaboration with inventor, of novel type of non-invasive device for measurement of left atrial pressure and cardiac contractility. · Evaluation of human performance. · Evaluation of the effects of interaction between equipment and user on human performance. It should be emphasized that, in addition to the technical and scientific expertise and specialized equipment for the type of work exemplified above, CRESE also has excellent mechanical and electronic shop facilities for modification and manufacture of devices according to the needs of its clients.
