PRODUCTION OF BAW REPORT UNDERWAY
Thank you for your submissions to the Society's 1998 Report on constituent
Brain Awareness Week activities.  We look forward to distributing the
finished report later this summer.  In the meantime, visit the Society's
BAW Web site for program information (http://www.sfn.org/BAW/).

START PLANNING FOR 1999
A reminder that Brain Awareness Week 1999 will take place March 15-21.
While that may seem a long time off, we highly recommend that you begin
planning your BAW activities now!  Invariably, the most successful efforts
are those that are conceptualized early.  Reserving venues, lining up
speakers, and other arrangements require plenty of lead time!  Please feel
free to contact the Society Office if we can assist you in any way with
your preparations.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Don't forget to mark your Annual Meeting calendars for the Society's third
annual Brain Awareness Week Meeting, Sunday, November 8, from 4:30-6:30
p.m., with a reception immediately following.  Join Brain Awareness
participants from universities and Society chapters across North America to
exchange experiences and tips on successful public outreach and discuss
project ideas for 1999.  Subjects to be discussed include how to secure
project funding, how to maximize publicity for your organization, and how
to talk science to a lay audience.

The program will also include remarks by Dr. Jan Tuomi, of the National
Academy of Sciences, on NAS's public education mission, and Dr. Itzchak
Parnas, a renowned innovator in pre-college science education as director
of Belmonte Laboratories in Israel.  We will also be discussing plans for
regional Brain Bee competitions for high school students.

Watch your mail for an invitation to this important meeting.  You may also
use the attached response form to RSVP.

We look forward to seeing you in Los Angeles!
