Postdoctoral
Position in Ion Channel Physiology & Biophysics
State University of New York at Buffalo
Buffalo, New York, U.S.A.
A
postdoctoral position is available in the Physiology/Biophysics
Department at the State University of New York at Buffalo,
New York. One of our research projects involves studies of
structure and function mechanisms of ion channels, in particular,
the VR1 receptor, a recently cloned sensory ion channel for
detection of heat, acids, and capsaicin - the hot ingredient
of spicy food and peppers. We are primarily interested in
the mechanistic aspects of heat activation and multimodal
functions of the receptor, i.e. how individual stimuli activate
the channel and how they interact with each other. Our approach
involves single-channel patch-clamp recording and site-directed
mutagenesis. The selected candidate will join us to expand
our on-going research on this project. The candidate will
be responsible for carrying out patch-clamp experiments, analyzing
data and writing papers.
Besides
the VR1 project, our research program also involves other
projects including development of advanced single-channel
data analysis techniques and development of computational
algorithms for protein bioinformatics and structure imaging.
The candidate will have an excellent opportunity to get exposed
to a variety of interesting research areas and interact with
both theoreticians and experimentalists with different expertise.
The
funding for this position is secure for at least four coming
years assuming good progress. The applicants must be self-motivated,
career-oriented, and have a strong background in the field
of ion channels. Experience in patch-clamp recording is required.
Good knowledge on quantitative data analysis and protein biophysics
is particularly appreciated. Familiarity with oocyte handling,
RNA injection, and mammalian cell-line transfection is preferred.
Interested
applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications
and a statement of research interests to:
